"...jazz?"

Maybe, as the genre continues evolving over the years, I'll incidentally become a jazz violinist.

There was no jazz minor for violin available when I got to university. The closest open jam I knew of was a funk jam at Fat Tuesday's Bar across from the school, so I stumbled into there, kept finding more funk jams and folk jams, and never thought to explore jazz more.

Today, I can hang on for dear life and follow the key center around; please throw me the occasional root note or fifth to help me navigate.

"electric/pedals?"

Some of my strongest influences are electric guitarists. I started approximating their sounds even before I knew that my violin was called "acoustic", and today I can simulate a wah or overdrive with my own hands.

Favorite fx knobs: chorus and reverb. This is because my other influences are horn sections going through reverbed mics and harmonizing instinctively with each other.

"...classically trained?"

There are some classically trained jam violinists in the area, and I look up to them.

My background: The music theory stuff... I picked that up from Filipino karaoke, an all-ages choir, and a couple of Youtube rabbit holes. I did not pursue violin lessons beyond high school orchestra. I speak about a dozen forms of music notation if needed (except alto clef - F.U., Alto Clef), and can play select genres by ear (F.U., bebop). You will def hear some classical idioms from me if that's what serves the song.
